Flowerbed - Art Collective

Flowerbed: Cultivating Art, Healing, and Connection

Flowerbed is an interdisciplinary art collective founded and directed by Alejandra Álvarez Polanía, a poet, painter and researcher whose work delves into themes of vulnerability, healing, and self-expression. Born from the belief that art has the power to nurture, transform, and connect, Flowerbed serves as a fertile ground where creativity blooms in harmony with personal and collective growth.

Our Mission

At Flowerbed, we cultivate spaces for artistic exploration and dialogue that embrace the intimate, the fragile, and the transformative. Through collaborative projects, workshops, and exhibitions, we provide opportunities for artists and communities to express, heal, and connect. We believe in the restorative power of art, its capacity to reveal truths, and its ability to foster deeper understanding between individuals and cultures.

Our Approach

Rooted in values of inclusivity and introspection, Flowerbed combines diverse artistic practices, including visual arts, poetry, and performance. Each project reflects our commitment to storytelling as a means of self-discovery and collective memory. We approach art-making as a deeply human and healing process, where every vulnerability holds the potential for growth and resilience.

Our Work

Flowerbed’s projects range from participatory art exhibitions to community poetry events and workshops that bring people together across languages and cultures. Key examples of our work include:

  • Community Initiatives: The poetry circle The Unicorn, brought to life in partnership with the Museum of Languages of Paris, celebrates the magic of words and provides a platform for every voice. This initiative also inspired the publication of a poetry book celebrating the voices of The Unicorn.

  • Exhibitions: Curating and organizing exhibitions such as MEME PAS PEUR by Flavia Raddavero reflects our dedication to exploring collective narratives through innovative and thought-provoking artistic formats.

  • Artistic Residencies: Flowerbed has taken root in diverse creative environments, including Ketemu in Bali and R.A.R.O. in Barcelona, fostering artistic growth and cross-cultural exchange.

  • Healing and Education: Workshops tailored to audiences ranging from children to adults in need of creative refuge highlight our dedication to growth through art.

Our Vision

Flowerbed envisions a world where art is both a mirror and a balm; a way of seeing oneself and others more clearly and compassionately. We strive to inspire not only artists but also communities to embrace the beauty of imperfection and to find strength in fragility.

We believe that every story matters, every language belongs, and every voice deserves to bloom.
